About the Festival

Kia ora, Talofa lava, Mālō e lelei, Kia orana, Fakalofa lahi atu, Bula Vinaka, Ia orana, Taloha ni, Halo, Kona mauri, Namaste, Salam, Ni Hao and Welcome to the 2018 Auckland Pride Festival!

From 2–18 February, Auckland’s Rainbow communities will come together to celebrate our unique mix of cultures, sexualities and gender identities in Aotearoa New Zealand’s most super-diverse city!

Moving forward into its sixth year, the Auckland Pride Festival is New Zealand’s largest and loudest social and cultural programme of events for our Rainbow communities – which includes people identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, takatāpui, whakawāhine, tangata ira tāne, fa’afafine, fakaleiti, akava’ine, māhū, vaka sa lewa lewa, rae rae, fiafifine, fakafifine, palopa, kathoey, hijra, baklâ, genderfluid, genderqueer, pansexual, asexual, queer and questioning – as well as our whānau, family and friends.

The 2018 Auckland Pride Festival will run for two weeks and three weekends, from Friday 2 February until Sunday 18 February, right across the Auckland region.

Human rights and LGBTIQ+ people are under attack all over the world. Aotearoa New Zealand stands strong as an island of relative stability and equality in a dark and stormy sea. The kaupapa/theme for Auckland Pride 2018 is Rainbow Warriors: Pride and Peace.

The 2018 Auckland Pride Festival will feature over 80 individual events – including local and international theatre and cabaret, comedy, dance, art exhibitions, live music, film and digital media, literature, poetry, debates and discussions, drag and burlesque, youth events and workshops, sports and recreation, gardening, pets, pageants, parties – and any other activity that showcases the incredible creativity, storytelling and talent of our Rainbow communities!

When tickets are booked in person, by phone, mail or internet, an additional cost may be incurred and will vary from a per-transaction charge to a per-ticket charge depending on which agent is selling the tickets.

Auckland Pride Guide

The official Auckland Pride programme will be printed and distributed throughout Aotearoa New Zealand in mid-January. At 20,000 copies, the Auckland Pride Guide is the largest annual print publication for New Zealand’s Rainbow communities.

All registered events will be listed in the programme – but if you want your event or organisation to attract maximum attention, it does pay to advertise! To book advertising space, please contact the Festival Director at your earliest convenience: [email protected]
